Dr. Richard Voyles, PhD has a broad-based knowledge in the area of Dispute Resolution.  His training presentations specialize in facilitative mediation skills at every level.   He graduated from Cornerstone College in Grand Rapids, Michigan and also studied Philosophy at Western Kentucky University where he received an MA. Graduating from Emory University with a PhD, Dr. Voyles does extensive work in the areas of prejudice reduction, cross-cultural communication and conflict management. He is currently recognized internationally in Who's Who in 2002 in Business.

Dr. Voyles is the President of Conflict Resolution Academy, a technology oriented company that employs Audio, Video, CD Rom and the Internet to train and certify skill sets both online and onsite. Dr. Voyles is a registered Neutral with the State of Georgia's Office of Dispute Resolution and is a professional mediator. As past Director of Training for The Justice Center of Atlanta, he has traveled the world, training people in conflict resolution and mediation skills.


Martin (Marty) Ellin, Attorney at Law,  is Legal Consultant for Conflict Resolution Academy, LLC.  In 1983, Marty became a professional mediator, and over the next fifteen years, mediated cases involving commercial claims and employment disputes.  Because of his belief in the process and his success with mediation, in 1999, Marty left the full time practice of law, served for two and half years as the Director of Legal Services for the Justice Center of Atlanta.  In 2001, he accepted the position of Director, Legal Services for Conflict Resolution Academy, LLC.  In addition, he acts as a Senior Trainer and leads the Education Development Department for Professionalism and Ethics.  He is a well-received keynote speaker.  Many of his training topics are available in both live and video presentations and are registered for Continuing Legal Education Credit.

Additionally, Marty is the Executive Director of the Atlanta Volunteer Lawyers Foundation, and continues his work as a professional mediator and a teacher of conflict resolution.  He encourages lawyers to become better advocates in mediation while representing clients. 


Deborah Laufer, JD, Attorney at Law, is a Senior Trainer and Content Development Specialist for Alternative Dispute Resolution Programs.  Ms. Laufer is also the Executive Director of the Federal ADR Network (FAN), which she founded in 1998. The Federal ADR Network focuses on distributing ADR information and materials electronically.  She is an experienced trainer in interest-based bargaining, mediation skills and dispute resolution systems design. She consults for federal agencies and private entities on how to develop an integrated workplace dispute resolution system.

Ms. Laufer is an attorney with a JD from Georgetown University Law Center. She graduated with honors from Barnard College, Columbia University with a major in political science and minors in economics and psychology.  Ms. Laufer received her training as a mediator at Georgetown University Law Center under the guidance of Linda Singer and Michael Lewis. 

Ms. Laufer also served as Assistant General Counsel and ADR Coordinator for Federal Programs at the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service.  Other experience includes work at the Administrative Conference of the United States, specializing in administrative law and federal ADR law.  She has expertise in how agencies apply dispute resolution and negotiated rulemaking techniques to contract, workplace, enforcement and environmental disputes. She has written several articles on federal dispute resolution systems and is co-editor of the Federal ADR Deskbook published by the American Bar Association (2001).


Bonnie M. Anderson, Consultant and Keynote Speaker for Conflict Resolution Academy, is a 27-year veteran of print, radio, Internet and television journalism in English and in Spanish. She has worked on camera for local, national and international news corporations, including two decades with NBC News and CNN. Anderson won seven Emmy Awards, was the finalist for the Pulitzer Prize and has been nominated for the Maria Coors Cabot Lifetime Achievement Award sponsored by Columbia University.

As Managing Editor of a CNN network, Anderson supervised newsgathering staff, including correspondents, producers and camera crews. As Vice President of the CNN News Group, she recruited and coached on- and off- air personnel.

Anderson has also coached US Air Force Special Operations officers, the Georgia and Florida emergency management agencies, at forums sponsored by Wordsworth Communication – marketing communications – and the Nation Business Education Association, among others.

Ms. Anderson offers workshops with tips on how to prepare for media exposure – newspaper, radio, television and Internet – such as how to satisfy the needs of the media without surrendering sensitive information or jeopardizing the company/case in any way. She offers coaching for attorneys in mock trial settings. Ms. Anderson also offers coaching on how to present yourself/your firm through print and media commercial advertising. Her value as a keynote speaker is immeasurable.

Barbara A. Bailey, Ph.D., Consultant and Trainer for Conflict Resolution Academy, has been a trainer, consultant and college level educator for over 17 years.  Dr. Bailey works in all areas of human resources management and development with a special interest in conflict management and the secrets of influence and motivation.  Dr. Bailey maintains faculty status at Shorter College teaching economics, management, research methodology, statistics and presentation skills.  She is a nationally recognized keynote speaker and seminar/workshop leader.

Dr. Bailey produces and stars in To the Point an Atlanta-based business radio show that airs six days per week and addresses issues of concern to the business community.

Dr. Bailey is a registered Mediator with the State of Georgia, and served on the Board of Directors of the Midlands Mediation Network in South Carolina.


Arline N. Berman, Consultant and Trainer for Conflict Resolution Academy, received her BA in Psychology, and M.Ed. Counseling from Georgia State University.  She has served as chair of the Atlanta Regional ODN group, the Organization Change Alliance, and is an active member of many professional and civic associations including the International Coach Federation (ICF), GA Coach Association, American Society for Training and Development, and the Association for Conflict Resolution.  Certified to deliver 360 degree assessments to both individuals and organizations, she is adept at using this and other assessment instruments such as the DISC and CTT values audit.  She has served as a volunteer mentor for both the GA 100 program for aspiring women leaders and WIT (Women in Technology). 

Arline is an executive coach with over twenty years of combined experience as a facilitator, mediator, and organizational effectiveness consultant.  Accomplished in coaching leaders in many industries (financial, healthcare, manufacturing, service, government and non-profit), her ability to balance inquiry with advocacy, acknowledge and challenge skill levels and build competencies, and naturally gain the trust of her clients enables them to shift paradigms, reframe assumptions and move to their highest level of professional growth and effectiveness.  The result - empowered, creative, evolving leaders.

Arline is a registered Mediator with the State of Georgia and practices general, juvenile and ADA mediation.


Diane Bogino, a trainer and consultant with Conflict Resolution Academy, LLC, has trained thousands of participants on a wide range of human resource topics in her 18 year career in human resources. Her clients have included the hospitality industry, government agencies, education, trade associations, and retail.

She works with corporate and individual clients in performance improvement, leadership, creating a coaching culture, dynamic communications, attitudes, conflict resolution, career development, resume preparation, and personal development. As a former actress and model, she brings a unique insight into human behavior and performance. Studying roles for plays, movies, commercials and radio and then bringing these roles to life has served as an excellent foundation for interpreting behavioral styles and drives. Using her expertise with behavioral assessments and unique questioning, she helps her clients achieve positive paradigm shifts, thereby creating more productive work and personal lives.

Ms. Bogino is the author of There’s Something Funny About Humor in Presentations. It is an excellent tool for anyone who speaks in public. Her second book, Finding Your Bootstraps, 11 Steps to Ending Victim Thinking is due out in early 2005. She has written many articles on customer service, personal development and leadership.
Diane holds the following certifications: Professional Human Resource (PHR); Registered Corporate Coach (RCC), Leaders Coaching Leaders Coach (LCL) and facilitator; Professional Behavioral Analyst (CPBA) (DISC Certified); Certified Values Analyst (CPVA); Certified Attribute Index Analyst (CAIA); certified Master Trainer and Instructional Designer/Developer. Also a 4-year Certified TIPS Trainer, Bogino, trains restaurants, hotels and club staff to serve alcohol responsibly. This course is a must to help the hospitality industry and individual servers avoid lawsuits, reduce insurance costs and improve professionalism.
She serves as an ambassador for the DeKalb Chamber of Commerce. Other memberships include: World Association of Business Coaches (WABC), National and Georgia Speakers Association (NSA), Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM); American Society for Training and Development (ASTD) and Georgia Hospitality & Tourism Association (GHTA).


Leigh Branham, SPHR, consultant with Conflict Resolution Academy, and located in Overland Park, Kansas, focuses on talent management, helping organizations analyze root causes of turnover and employee disengagement, then develop and implement employer-of-choice strategies.

In January of 2004, Branham partnered with the Saratoga Institute to write The 7 Hidden Reasons Employees Leave: How to Recognize the Subtle Signs and Act Before It’s Too Late (AMACOM Books, December, 2004)--about the root causes of employee disengagement and turnover, based on surveys of more than 19,700 employees. This book was released in January, 2005.

His first book, Keeping the People Who Keep You in Business, was published by the American Management Association in 2001 and featured hundreds of innovative employee retention best practices. It was named by the Harvard Management Update as one of the top three books on the topic.

Branham, who graduated from Vanderbilt University, and has two Master’s degrees from the University of Missouri-Columbia, has 25 years experience in human resource consulting, and speaks and trains frequently on the topics of employee engagement/retention, career development in organizations, employment practices, workforce trends, leadership, and management development. He has worked with numerous corporations in the area of employee engagement and retention, focusing on the financial and emotional impact on the organizations.


Robert Carey, Consultant and Trainer for Conflict Resolution Academy, LLC, management consultant, coach, trainer, group facilitator, mediator, and public speaker has over 30 years' experience working in the private and public sectors nationwide. Robert is an adjunct faculty member at the American University, Intercultural Management Institute in Washington, DC where he lectures and facilitates diversity skills workshops at the graduate level. He has also instructed, lectured, and been a visiting professor at several community colleges and Historically Black Colleges and Universities.

Using environment assessment tools Robert works with organizations to identify issues and areas of concern for workplace improvement and to improve relationships within the workplace. He has developed and led team-building programs in the public and private sectors. During his corporate career, Robert was a participant and trainer in the AT&T Executive Development Program in Princeton, NJ.

Robert has served as a mentor for women with the Georgia 100/Mentor Exchange program. He is a volunteer for the American Cancer Society speaking about health issues affecting men (everyone) today. Robert is a Peer Reviewer for the National Institute of Health, NCI, Consumer Advocates in Research & Related Actives, (CARRA) and sits on the DOD, DOA Prostate Cancer Integration Panel for Prostate Cancer Research Proposal Review. He also serves as a member of the Atlanta Black Cardiology Institutional Review

Robert received a B.S. from Towson State University in Baltimore, MD. He has studied in the Master's program at Nova University in Ft. Lauderdale, FL. He received certificates from the Gestalt Institute of Cleveland in the Gestalt Methodology of Organization Development and Group Work. Robert is certified to use the Myers Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) and other workplace and group assessment tools. He also has certificates in human behavior from The National Training Laboratory in Arlington, VA, a Certificate in Mediation from Conflict Resolution Academy, LLC, Atlanta, GA, and a Certification in Diversity Training from The American Institute, Atlanta, Georgia. He is the author of Facing The Future: A Practical Guide To Career Transition - A Guide For Federal Employees In A Time Of Turmoil (1996).

Carl R. Deus, Consultant and Trainer for Conflict Resolution Academy, LLC, leads the development and presentation of negotiation training for the Academy.  He retired from IBM after a career in sales, marketing, and as a professional skills instructor.  He was selected to become a certified instructor in negotiation and conflict resolution, and attended the Harvard Negotiation training program offered through Conflict Management, Inc. at Harvard University. 

He has taught over 200 courses on conflict resolution, consensus building, diversity, leadership, management, Peter Senge's The Fifth Discipline process, presentation skills, and team building.   Training responsibilities have included needs assessment, design, development, and delivery of courses across all media platforms.

Carl maintains senior faculty status at two colleges in Atlanta.  He has been a guest speaker at national and regional corporate events, inner city schools, and numerous civic organizations. 

He is a certified mediator registered with the Georgia Office of Dispute Resolution and is also certified in arbitration.


Dr. Merrill Douglass, keynote speaker and consultant for Conflict Resolution Academy, LLC, has been a recognized authority on time management and personal productivity since 1972. The Wall St. Journal and Fortune magazine have called him a "top expert." He and his ideas have been featured in leading publications, such as Business Week, Fortune, Inc., Wall St. Journal, Money, Working Woman, Atlanta Journal and Constitution, Detroit News, and The Washington Post.

He has presented over 3500 programs and seminars around the world. His clients have included Fortune 500 companies, government agencies, leading universities, trade associations, church organizations, and businesses of all kinds. Dr. Douglass earned the Doctor of Business Administration degree from Indiana University with a double major in Management and Organizational Behavior, and he has served as a professor in both graduate and undergraduate business schools. Wendy Ellin, trainer and Consultant with Conflict Resolution Academy, LLC, is recognized as a professional in the area of organization and time management. Using these skill sets, Wendy assists families, executives, individuals and organizations increase their productivity by helping them understand the value of being on time, organizing personal space, the workplace and setting priorities. Her personal success in the area of sales and training is directly attributed to her ability to work “smart.” Ms. Ellin tailors her presentations to be individually and organizationally specific. Vicki Flier, Diversity Consultant and Global Business Skills specialist for Conflict Resolution Academy, provides customized, real-world training programs in intercultural communication, multicultural team building and international business skills to corporations, aid organizations and educators. Vicki supervised and conducted training for international and domestic Distribution and Manufacturing for Immucor, Inc., a worldwide blood bank automation company with affiliates throughout Europe. In the past, Vicki has lived in Nepal and worked in Germany, India and Thailand. In the world of changing business practices and demographics, Ms. Flier has effectively impacted cultural foundations, awareness, knowledge and skills for intercultural management.


Marian Hirschkorn, consultant and trainer for Conflict Resolution Academy, LLC earned a B.S. from Minot State University and an M.S.S.A. from Case Western Reserve University. She has a diverse background with 30 years in senior level management with a Fortune 500 company, as a psychotherapist and as a personal and executive coach.

Marian is also a workshop leader, mediator, consultant, trainer and educator. She has served on the faculty of three major universities, served on the board of directors for several organizations, conducted managerial workshops throughout the USA and internationally, is a public speaker and has been featured as a guest expert on talk radio.

As a proponent of living your life by conscious choice, Marian is the Creator of the “Working By Choice, Not By Chance”TM and “Living By Choice, Not By Chance”TM systems and has assisted countless individuals, corporate executives and entrepreneurs in finding and/or developing their work and lifestyle of choice. Deborah Johns-Tatum, Consultant and Trainer for Conflict Resolution Academy, LLC, holds a Masters of Education from Georgia State University and a Bachelor of Science Degree from Tusculum College. Ms. Johns is an experienced Trainer, Consultant and Mediator and is register with the Georgia Office of Dispute Resolution. Her work is in the areas of leadership, communication, conflict resolution, workplace disputes, court mediation and special education mediation. Ms. Johns' expertise also deals with EEO, EEOC complaints and Union Grievances. She has consulted and trained throughout the United States and Europe.

Deborah has served as an instructor for Catawba Community College, Director of Education for Devereux Foundation, a private not-for-profit psychiatric hospital, and as an independent trainer and consultant for a variety of Federal and State agencies, corporations and the special education field. 


Richard F. Mayer, trainer and consultant with Conflict Resolution Academy, is an experienced police manager and consultant, and an attorney admitted to the practice of law before the highest court of the State of Maryland and the United States Supreme Court. He holds a top secret/SCI clearance; a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Virginia; and a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Baltimore. He has served as Acting Deputy Director of the International Criminal Investigative Training Assistance Program (ICITAP), a unit of the Criminal Division of the U.S. Department of Justice. He was appointed as Chief of the Brunswick (Maine) Police Department in which capacity he innovated several programs including unique police reporting/records, citizen complaint (quality control) and personnel deployment systems. He was subsequently appointed and served as Assistant Director of the International Association of Chiefs of Police. In this capacity, he incorporated the Commission on the Accreditation of Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA) and authored several of the standards now in use by that Organization. During the period 1985 through 1991, Mr. Mayer successfully served as Director of Human Resources (Personnel Officer) for Anne Arundel County, Maryland. His responsibilities including human resource policy development and implementation; labor negotiations and labor relations management with six employee unions; benefit program design, modification and administration.

Over the course of some thirty years, Mr. Mayer has consulted with more than 300 domestic and international police agencies with regard to operational, administrative, managerial and legal issues emphasizing the proper control of police discretion, police accountability and police-community partnerships. He has lectured at the FBI National Academy and National Executive Institute, and taught at the International Law Enforcement Academy in Budapest, Hungary, Southwest Legal Foundation California Highway Patrol Academy, Missouri Highway Patrol Academy, as well as at the Maine Criminal Justice Academy, Prince Georges County, Montgomery County and in many other police academies and forums. Mr. Mayer also served as an adjunct professor at the University of Maine at both Farmington and Auburn, Maine where he taught courses in Introduction to Law Enforcement, Police Management Theory and Practice, and Police Operations. Under contract to Science Applications, Inc., Mr. Mayer prepared lesson plans in Criminal Law and Criminal Procedure for Police Officers for the Police Corps Program.

Under contract with the U.S. Department of Justice, Mr. Mayer developed ICITAP’s policies and training curricula for establishment of an office of professional responsibility. Working with the future commander of the Office, Mr. Mayer established the new Office of Professional Responsibility for the Guyana Police Force. In March 1997, over a four week period of time, Mr. Mayer established the Independent Complaints Directorate (ICD) of the Republic of South Africa in Pretoria by developing policies, forms and procedures for receiving and investigating citizen complaints against the South African Police Service. He then trained ICD staff members in that City as well as field offices in Capetown, Johannesburg and Durban in order to meet a target opening date established by the Mandela Government. Mr. Mayer joined ICITAP as a federal employee in 1999 and has been active in the assessment of foreign country police needs and the design, development and implementation of international law enforcement development programs for ICITAP including those in Kosovo, East Timor, Indonesia, Afghanistan and Iraq. In January 2003, Mr. Mayer was detailed to the Pentagon to join the Office of Reconstruction and Humanitarian Assistance (ORHA) as part of an inter-agency effort to assist the Defense Department to plan and manage post-conflict reconstruction in Iraq.

Most recently, Mr. Mayer is the author of: - Principles of Policing in a Free Society; Standards for International Law Enforcement Development (2001); Comprehensive Counter-Terrorism Planning and Assistance; a Program for Prevention (2002); and
The ICITAP Manual for Assessing Foreign Law Enforcement.


Thomas McPherson, Jr., Consultant and Trainer for Conflict Resolution Academy, LLC, has thirty-five years of experience in the field of Equal Employment Opportunity.  He served as Deputy Director, Birmingham District Office, EEOC; Director, Norfolk Area Office, EEOC; Enforcement Manager and District Director, Atlanta District Office, EEOC. 

He holds a BA from Morris Brown College and received and an MA from Interdenominational Theological Center.  He is active in the Association for Conflict Resolution (Former Chairman, Employment Dispute Resolution Section); American Arbitration Panel of Neutrals; At-Large Member of the Alabama Supreme Court's Commission on Dispute Resolution; registered in the General Mediation category of the Alabama Mediator Roster of the State Bar.

Thomas is a mediator/arbitrator, trainer, and case evaluator of employment disputes.


Deborah Nicholson, Consultant and Trainer for Conflict Resolution Academy, LLC, has over 15 years experience in developing organizational readiness. The consultation and training services provided focus on increasing the individual effectiveness and performance of staff by assisting the leadership in aligning Mission requirements with Human needs. This alignment, which encompasses the elements of strategic planning with the enhancement of people skills, creates an environment with high levels of trust, commitment, motivation and competence. The outcome is a strong healthy organizational culture that has the internal capacity to produce high quality mission results because of powerful, proactive human interaction.

Ms. Nicholson is certified through the Department of Defense as a human relations/equal opportunity manager, advisor and trainer. She has served in leadership positions in military, public and private organizations and has extensive experience in strategic planning, change management, cultural diversity and human relations at the policy, administrative and implementation levels. 


Gillian Royes, Ph.D, Gillian Royes has been a corporate communications and diversity consultant, lecturer and trainer for 25 years. She has extensive international experience in workplace relationship issues that, left unresolved, can divide and conquer the best company. Her personal mission is to assist corporations with the identification of intercultural issues, the creation and implementation of strategies to resolve challenges, and the evaluation of the strategies selected.

Starting in 1979, when she gained her Ph.D. in Communications and History from Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia, Gillian taught Organizational Communications at Clark Atlanta University. In 1984 she began consulting to the private and public sectors in Jamaica in Communications and Public Relations. In Trinidad and Tobago, she became a facilitator with the Institute of Business, University of the West Indies, in 1993.

Additionally, Gillian studied Stress Management and Work/Life Balance at the Centre for Stress Management in London, UK, under Dr. Stephen Palmer. In 1995, she received her certificate as a consultant and counselor from the Centre, and subsequently offered numerous training sessions in Trinidad and Tobago and Jamaica in the area of Stress Management. She continues to write a weekly column in the Jamaica Observer on the subject of stress.

Returning to the US in 2000 after 16 years overseas, Gillian studied coaching and relationship building under Dr. Gay Hendricks of the Hendricks Institute, Santa Barbara, California. In that year she started a company in Atlanta called Gender Plus, focusing on diversity in the modern workplace. Gender Plus has conducted qualitative and quantitative research for corporations, facilitated workshops on gender and diversity generally, and created meaningful custom-built diversity initiatives for clients ranging from Georgia Power to CB Richard Ellis (formerly Coldwell Bankers). Her work in that arena has culminated in a March 2004 publication entitled Sexcess: The New Gender Rules at Work (Xlibris Pubs.).

Gillian has most recently facilitated workshops in multicultural communications and conflict, and cultural change. She is currently working on another publication with the working title of “Shake-Up: The New Multicultural Earthquake in America”. As a multiracial professional herself, Gillian welcomes the opportunity to assist companies seeking to create a culturally competent environment.

Jim Seckman, CMM, CSS, CAC11, Consultant and Trainer for Conflict Resolution Academy, LLC, addresses the issues of addiction, causes and treatment through a variety of relationships with addiction and recovery facilities and organizations. With a history of experience as Executive Director of the Breakthrough House, member of the Ethics Committee of the Georgia Addiction Councilor Association and other treatment and recovery centers, his experience and expertise is unparalleled. He received his MAC (Master Addiction Counselor) designation through the national organization National Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Counselors, CAC11 (Certified Addiction Counselor, Level 2), and CCS (Certified Clinical Supervisor) through the Georgia Addiction Counselor’s Association. Mr. Seckman has served as a volunteer with the Juvenile Detention Centers for several years. In addition to addressing addiction, causes and treatment, Jim presents seminars on the following topics: Suicide Assessment and Prevention, Reasons for Suicide, Assessing Suicidal Risk, Prevention of Suicide, Coping after the suicide of a loved one. 

Richard O. Wood, consultant and trainer for Conflict Resolution Academy, LLC, is a Certified Master Instructor and has been teaching professionally for over 20 years. Richard received his BS in Organization Management from Colorado Christian University. His background ranges from teaching Survival, Evasion, Resistance, and Escape (S.E.R.E.) for the United States Air Force and Department of Defense personnel, to providing grade school children training on diversity issues. He has created multiple training programs ranging from survival training to leadership/team building. Currently Richard is Chief of Training and Education for the United States Air Force Academy Center for Character Development Respect and Responsibility Workshops. He is responsible for the training of over 4,000 military personnel on effective communication, character development, diversity, leadership styles, team building and mentoring.

Richard is a certified Mediator, Adventure based Learning High and Low Challenged Course Manager, Adventure Based Learning High Challenged Rescue and Emergency Response Certified. Additionally he is a Certified Advanced Facilitator, Certified Search and Rescue Manager, United States Air Force S.E.R.E. Instructor (ret)

Lester M. Van Buren has 38 years of Federal Government experience with the U. S. Department of State. He is an accomplished trainer and has an extensive background in developing organizational learning strategies for leadership and management, and industry standard information technology (IT) certification programs for the Department of State. Mr. Van Buren graduated from Syracuse University with a Masters of Science in Information Resource Management. He has earned certificates from the Federal CIO University, whose programs address Federal executive core competencies, and he has a professional certificate in Performance Improvement Management from the Information Society for Performance Improvement.

Mr. Van Buren has served on a number of high-level Department of State committees on a range of training issues and has a well rounded background in the development of leadership and management, performance improvement, human resource and motivation management. For the past seven years, he has worked closely with developing a workforce of over 700 IT professionals located both domestically and in over 32 diplomatic posts abroad. Various specialized training assignments have taken him to Austria, Canada, and France.

Mr. Van Buren is an Adjunct Professor at Prince Georges Community College in Largo, MD and teaches evening classes in the Leadership and Management Program.
